Strath Clague was born in Bermuda in 1952, to rich Scottish parents. He ran away from home in 1956 to pursue a career in the Navy.

He was educated at Yale University and that other good University in America, where he was awarded an M.A and a PHD with distinctions.

He played Quarterback for the Miami Bears.

He was a complete layabout before the success of this book allowed him to become a full time writer.

Strath is now a self made millionaire but still finds time to mix with the ordinary working classes.

Indeed it is not unusual to see him in The Royal Oak public house, and he still insists on mending his own caravanette.

Strath can play every musical instrument including the guitar.

Strath can count to ten in over three foreign languages.

Strath's only regret in life is that he never learnt to spell Czechoslovakia.

Strath Clague now lives in Musselburgh a small village not that far from Paris. He has an inside toilet and a wee dog.
